Visions of Alcatraz
Description
An account of the resource
Alcatraz Penitentiary closed its doors and decommissioned the prison in 1963 because of high operational costs and deteriorating facilities. For many this was seen as an opportunity to use Alcatraz Island for various purposes. Many ideas were conceptualized by the public and sent to the mayor’s office. Here are some of the visions for Alcatraz.

Sirs,
Seeing some of the ideas sent to you for a monument on Alcatraz one day on television I came upon a idea I thought would look good on Alcatraz.
I know that there are many architects who may have better ideas then this. But I thought I would just show you what I think would be a big tourist attraction for San Francisco.
I call it the (Torch of Peace) on the top could be anything from just a lookout to a restaurant. Going up to the top is a elevator in the center.
I know you have your hands full trying to decide what to put on Alcatraz and I might just be giving you another headache.
But having been born in San Francisco although I am not living here at the time I am proud of the city. I have seen many cities in the United States and think San Francisco is the most beautiful in the country. So I think the monument on the bay should be the same.
Sincerely
Dan Oliveri
